“Uncle Soy Sauce” – Monte Pittman Rocks!

 I tweeted  Monte to ask him how he and Adam met.  Well, he didn’t answer but @SajiniB was kind enough to send me a conversation on twitter that was posted on Livejournal.

Q: @Monterrific  wait, did you meet through the zodiac show? i don’t think i know how you and adam actually met (i feel like a bad fan!!)

A: @rather_sail at first, I asked Allan Louis who he thought was the best singer in LA because I think the “Zodiac/Club Makeup” singers…are the best in the world. I told him I was starting a band and wanted the best singer. He told me about Adam. I kept trying to find him and @leecherry had him in to do the Zodiac show. Adam and I were like “hey, I think you’re the guy everyone’s been telling me about” and he was like “hey, I think you’re the guy everyone’s been telling me about”. That was the beginning.  @lisa_pittman just reminded me that show was at a private party and we did a Zodiac type show and opened for Kiss of all people.  Ironic.

The explanation of Monte’s new name is  funny and so appropriate!  (if you know who wrote this please let me know so I can credit it )

soy sauce is an internet slang in china. when you want 2 express “it is none of my business”, you can say “i just come here to buy the soy sauce”.
the chinese fans called Monte “Uncle Soy Sauce” because no matter how many shippings around Adam, he always remains calm like “he just want 2 buy the soy sauce”, none of the shippings have anything to do with him.

When he performs with Adam, he always blend in the background but still able 2 show Adam support and love. that’s exactly the spirit of “soy sauce”..

On the origin of “Uncle Soy Sauce”

“Soy Sauce”here has a whole different meaning than a flavor. Several years back, when some TV station in mainland China was doing some sort of “voices from the street”, a man in shorts and flipflops walked by. The reporter stopped him to ask his opinion on a specific issue. Replied the man ” I’m only here to get some SOY SAUCE home. Like I care.” The netizens(Chinese web users) quickly picked that up because for the first time instead of giving a standardized answer on some matters we sort of can say I just don’t care. I just want to live my life. So leave me alone.

As it evolves with rising popularity, the phrase “just to get SOY SAUCE” has been used in all kinds of conversations from showing that you don’t care to that nothing happening around you can catch you off guard.
For Monte, we first used it when we noticed how calm he is no matter how much hot action Adam has got going on beside him. It’s almost like, OK, Adam is having major boy-on-boy or naughty or something else, but Monte would just keep his semi-poker face, all calm, stand there and rock that guitar.
In short,we love that Monte always stands so calmly to Adam and that’s why we nicknamed him “Uncle Soy Sauce” ”

Adam and Monte (he’s the one with the long hair) wrote music  together and played in their  band called Citizen Vein.

Monte is married to Lisa.  They have two children with two more on the way!

Great Fan Story and Recap- Part I

From the time I learned that I won an all-expense paid trip to see Adam until the night before our actual travel, I was on Twitter with Lisa and letting her know about our rough plans (since the radio station has not given our itinerary as yet) I was wondering if it was possible to meet Monte. It was just a musing, mind you. I certainly did not expect a single thing.

Then, Lisa did it again – she left me speechless. She contacted Monte and worked her butt off to make sure she got a wonderful surprise for me – I was going to meet Monte in Singapore if everything worked out! Now, how on earth was I not to freak out when I saw that particular message in my inbox?? Monte wants to meet me?? Holy ****!! I promptly ran out of my room, yelling and flailing incoherently for a while

Explanation of Dang-Dang (Adam’s Chinese name)

Dang Dang is a nickname the (Mainland) Chinese fans called Adam, whose name is Chinese character is: Ah Dang.
