The 2010 Ladies’ Choice Hot 50 Results

July 21, 2010

Our members might be predominantly gay and bisexual men, but we do have a surprising number of female readers here at We value you ladies and feel bad that every year we have to ask you to sit out the Hot 100 voting (for that list we wanted a fair representation of whom gay and bi men find attractive).

To try and make up for it, every year we run a special poll exclusively our female readers, in which we ask them which gay/bi men they find hot.

This year over 12,000 votes were cast for over 600 different nominees. The top fifty appear here.

Without further ado… The 2010 Ladies’ Choice Hot 50!

“Adam Lambert performed at this year’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney wearing his signature Elvis meets Freddie Mercury with a dash of Gene Simmons look. He makes us forget who really won American Idol two seasons ago. Anyone who can rock a man corset and studded cup with a pompadour and “don’t eff with me” boots is my idol. And hello thighs!”

You can guess what it looked like. Rainbow lasers slicing through the air. Lots of leather, feathers, glitter and bling. A sequined microphone. Sequined everything, really.

But when Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation tour erupted on the 9:30 club stage Monday night, it wasn’t so much a feast for the eyeballs as a test on the eardrums. The singer, famous for taking second place in the eighth season of “American Idol,” proved that his voice may actually be too powerful for its own good. Unchecked by Simon, Paula, Kara, Randy or human dignity, Lambert would often venture into timbres somewhere between nails-on-chalkboard and sneaker-on-basketball-court.

“My baby walks so slow, sexual tic-tac-toe,” he sang during the opening verse of “Fever,” punctuating his words with the thrusts and gyrations of a thousand MTV videos. As Lambert began skyrocketing into higher vocal frequencies, the audience did its best to return the gesture with shrieks of adulation.

And what a loving audience it was. Young men in raccoon eye-shadow stood shoulder to shoulder with retired moms in Crocs — all parties wailing with joy as Lambert sauntered across the stage during “Strut.” As with many of his songs, the lyrics were totally insipid and very clearly enuniciated. “I want to start a revolution/A type of personal solution,” he sang in a Broadway-ready delivery. “We all have got our own pollution/It’s all about the execution.”

Awkward couplets like these, of course, are part of what make Lambert the weirdest (read: greatest) of all the “American Idol” alums. Sure, he’s openly gay and incredibly fabulous, but his charm lies in the fact that he’s a swaggering hair metal howler trapped in the body of a pop newbie who still doesn’t sound completely sure of himself. Onstage, the 28-year-old belted almost every note as if blessed-slash-cursed with a superpower he’s still learning to control.

But between songs, he offered charms of the aw-shucks variety, appearing geeky and affable while introducing his backing musicians. After giving his drummer the green light to dive into a solo, the singer blurted out, “Oooh, cowbell!”

And that was the one moment where Lambert offered a true glimpse-of-self amid the campy, prefab charade that comprised the rest of the evening. And no, there’s nothing wrong with campy, pre-fab charades. But Lambert hasn’t fully learned how to inhabit his character — he hasn’t even figured out who that Aquanet-doused character might actually be.

But that didn’t stop him from rattling off a few vapid platitudes between songs. Before the histrionic jingle-jangles of “Aftermath,” he waxed thoughtfully, “Sometimes I think it’s better to look inside yourself for the answers.”

The only moment more grimace-inducing came during a cover of the Johnny Cash hit “Ring of Fire” — a drippy, psychedelic vamp that bordered on caricature thanks to Lambert’s serpentine dance moves and fluttering fingers.

It was painful — but not literally. That came during the encore as Lambert tore into Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” bringing the song into a caterwauling, ear-searing crescendo.

Some fans put their hands over their gaping mouths. Others stuck their fingers in their ears.

Fans Bring Allison Iraheta Back To The Glam Nation Tour

Due to popular demand and a fan petition from not only Allison Iraheta’s fans, but also Adam Lambert’s fans (self-proclaimed “Glamberts”), Allison has been invited to continue as support on the second leg of Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation North American Tour which runs through the end of September.Allison’s latest single, “Don’t Waste The Pretty” (click on link to stream) featuring Australian rock guitarist Orianthi (also out on select dates of Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour with Iraheta), is currently out at Top 40 and Hot AC radio. Billboard states, “’Don’t Waste the Pretty’ deserves to become for Iraheta what ‘Whataya Want From Me’ was for Adam Lambert — a breakthrough record for an ‘Idol’ alum with outsize talent.”

  1. A note on “Candyman”-I have always had a sweet craving for Adam to sing this song. Campy, but so much fun. Or maybe he could sing it WITH the rather divine Miss C. They would tear up the stage.

  2. I remember the Washington review from a post over at Adam Official. I felt that the reviewer went in not liking Adam to begin with so the review from him/her I’m not sure which was going to have a negative slant on it to begin with. I understand he/she got lambasted by Glambert’s in response to it. I always comment on good reviews because the ones who are negative probably wouldn’t care what I thought anyway. So far that was the only really negative review out of all the places Adam has performed so far. Now that would make me feel like a class a jerk but he/she probably doesn’t. For the record I am left wondering how on earth this individual became a music reviewer/critic in the first place with that closed minded attitude.

  6. I just heard Soaked & this was by far the best version I have heard yet; Adam’s voice is just beyond belief and think that he has the best technical voice I have ever heard – there is not a soul that comes close to those sounds emanating from that man’s vocal cords. And Adam saying he was all wet at the beginning of WLL is just much too take – where does this man’s sexiness end – NEVER!!! And those pictures really showcase Adam’s body that is getting better as the days go by – talk about ravishing to look at. That masquerader for a writer who wrote the Washington Post article must have smoked some really bad stuff, because he or she was definitely hallucinating – Adam was sizzling hot that hot as he usually is. did that idiot know that Adam isthe only performer to have sold out on practically his entire concerts? What a nimrod this person is!

  7. First of all thanks bunches for this blog which keeps me updated and is by far the best Adam Lambert page if you ask me.
Much better than his official website which I find boring and very late with updates.
I think like DeeDee that this version of Soaked is the best version I have ever heard. I don’t know how Adam can keep up with performances every night and still get better and better… when it comes to the writer from Washington Post I don’t even want to make any comments except “are you blind and deaf” !!!!!
Adam is AMAZING and I pray he will come to a country near me when he visits Europe later this year. Even though I saw him at HEAVEN in London I would love to go to a GLAM TOUR CONCERT. And yes, I am one of the middleage fans who grew up with David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, T.Rex, Deep Purple and I could go on…. Adam is the best thing that has happend in YEARS AND YEARS… he’s the ONLY one who got me into “new pop/rock” music and I am a passionate huge fans of his. Adam rocks!!
