Adam Lambert is Finally Crowned the Winner of American Idol

(I added this late yesterday on the post but it deserves to be seen again!)

“On the night following Adam’s stint as mentor on American Idol, with or without their permission, Adam Lambert claimed and wore that crown and that title. With what can only be described as a mind boggling performance of his hit single Whataya Want From Me, appearing as an apparition in dark profile within a green cone of illuminated swirling clouds, Adam delivered the opening verse of the song with clear, strong, yet hauntingly measured notes that swept his audience into a space/time continuum in which only he and they existed, then broke out into full Planet Fierce rock mode complete with glossy Elvis-esque jacket and pompadour, yet facial and body language that was clearly signature Glambert. It was a stunning performance, one which some have labeled the best Idol return performance the show has ever seen, lending even more validity to his newly bestowed crown. He single-handedly transformed the Idol stage into the Adam Lambert concert, and in doing so, claimed the stage as his own. Anyone else who ever performs on that stage from now on will be borrowing it from Adam Lambert.

After the events of Adam Lambert’s triumphant return to the American Idol stage, it seems like the season 8 finale announcement never happened. For many of Adam’s fans the experience has provided complete closure.

Adam Lambert has come back to American Idol, where a year ago he had an appointment with destiny.

And American Idol, the unique show that launched this supernova, has finally crowned their Idol of, and for, all time.”

“We interrupt this TV recap with a weather warning. A tornado watch is in effect for the American Idol stage. From out of this tornado will emerge ADAM LAMBERT, clad in a silver paint-splashed jacket with metallic studs and bedazzled ear monitors, surprising us with a slowed-down intro to ”Whataya Want From Me.” After that, Adam will proceed to rip into the vocals with such beast-like commitment that, if you were able to catch your breath and think about it, might have you feeling sorry for Katie, Tim Urban, and Michael Lynche, the only three contestants who had to ponder giving an exit performance in Adam’s wake of thick fog, massive glory notes, and a web of green lasers that made the stage look like a high-budget Benny Ninja challenge on America’s Next Top Model. Do not be alarmed if one or more camera-people gets so excited about experiencing ”WWFM” at such close range that they momentarily lose control of their equipment and make Adam briefly drop off your screen. That’s just the kind of shenanigans you come to expect when you’re visiting the Glambert Galaxy.

I loved Adam’s gracious ”I owe this show everything” remark that followed his set. What I didn’t love was Ryan’s manic-bordering-on-hysterical follow-up to the performance: ”That’s a hit record right there!” We can all read, dude. No need to throw life preservers at a guy who’s swimming along quite nicely on his own, thanks.”,,20312226_20361140_2,00.html

“The other performance came from Adam Lambert, last year’s runner up, and that guy has some serious pipes. I’d never heard him perform before, having never watched the show before this season, but his was the first guest performance of the season that showed legitimate power. It’s easy to see why he’s got a career.” (WE KNOW and Welcome to the Glamily!)

“Fans are still praising Adam Lambert for his mentoring and performance on American Idol. Many were so impressed that they are still singing his praises and even suggesting that FOX offer Adam Lambert his very own show.”

American Idol Recap: Adam Lambert Is Officially Anointed the New Elvis

“Last night the remaining nine contestants on American Idol stumbled through the catalogue of Elvis Presley, failing for the most part to make any of the King’s tunes their own. Season-eight runner-up Adam Lambert blessedly livened things up as a guest mentor, and he was actually a great tie-in to the week’s theme since Elvis also wore mascara offstage and the networks won’t show Lambert doing certain things below the hips. Glambert kept the episode afloat by actually giving some honest feedback, saying this season has great singers but a lot of them need to “wake up … let’s put on a show.” (And after weeks of the judges wondering what the problem is with Andrew, it was a relief to have someone flat out tell him his singing was boring.)

The mentoring segments were filmed in Las Vegas, which added absolutely nothing to the episode but did allow Ryan to utter questionable lines like, “Let’s see what happened to Katie in Sin City … ” And to make up for all the gay jokes in his wheelhouse that he would have liked to have been making last season (there was mid-season speculation, but Lambert didn’t publicly come out until after the season wrapped), Ryan made sure to tell Adam, “My tongue is not nearly as talented as yours … you know what I mean, with singing! With singing!” Adam gracefully responded with one of those “please shut up” smiles you make when your mom tells your significant other about your potty-training travails.”

  2. Adam Lambert for me is energy and fun. I’m a female in my 60’s and he brings out all the feelings I had for Elvis at 14. I love my inner 14 year old ,as Adam might say, giving me color for my day. His talent is without end. His personalily puts a smile on my face.

  5. Thanks for all this interesting stuff! I did find the ‘Andygal’ thing rather odd…it must be such a pain for Adam having his space invaded and I personally don’t get that kind of fandom. I want him to be able to perform and then relax without always having to be watching out for people following/taking photos/stalking. That would get annoying.

  6. Not sure I agree with all of the comments on this site, but interesting blog post none the less. It’s been a while since I’ve visited, but great stuff as always. Do you freelance and/or write guest posts for other blogs?
