(I wanted to hear how he sees his fans, I know they are very dedicated.) “The contact with my fans is very important. I don’t understand really how you can wait outside the hotel for several hours or fly across half the country to see me come out from an airport. I’ve never been a superfan of anyone, never experienced that. I think nothing bad about it, I just don’t understand why. I respect and appreciate it and I’m very flattered. I have noticed that it almost never is guys, that most are a bit older females. “I know they like what I do and that is admirable.”  Adam Lambert

Dear Adam:  I’m with you on this one!  I also have not been a superfan of anyone.  Truthfully, I’ve enjoyed some performers in the past but haven’t gone out of my way to see them or read about them.  Then you appear and all my beliefs about myself and my behaviour are challenged!

Several months ago I tried to end this obsession I have with you  (Dear John letter on AO .. link below) but finally decided that its pointless  for me to try.  You have brought so many new friends, new experiences and such joy into my already full life that I am at peace with all the craziness!  I believe that through you, I understand people better and have given up judgements I had before I became an Adam Lambert superfan!

So Adam Lambert, it’s all good!! No need to understand it.. it just is. And BTW, thanks for being my first!

(and I know there are many others who feel the same way! Leave a comment below because I love hearing your thoughts.)

Adam Interview and Music on Gaydar

(Adam’s energy is incredible!)

http://www.mediafire.com/?k21myxlmnt4 ( this includes DJs talking about Adam)

This is a long interview (32 minutes) so I’m posting some  memorable Adam quotes for those who might not listen to it:

I was so, so nervous!” (re: Walking into the room with the judges)

“I was not going to go out of there without a fight” (re: Audition)

“I never kept it like a secret..   I was openly flirting with plenty of the staff!”  (re: Did they know he was gay on Idol)

Everything I had done to that point had prepared me for Idol.. kinda like the Slumdog Millionaire movie.”

“That does it for me and that doesn’t. ..there you go… not that complicated.” (re: knowing he was gay)

“That’s the same snake that’s wrapped around my leg in the Rolling Stone cover… they named it Adam… Adam the snake, Adam the python.” (FYE video)

“Where are the boys?  Ladies, bring your friends! ( re: looking in the audience for  a Shag Of  Show)

“I am proud of who I am and I wanna stay visible in the music scene for everyone! But especially for those kids that like myself, don’t have anybody that’s mainstream that they can look at and say ‘ That person’s proud of their sexuality and the fact that they are different.'”

  3. I’m with you. I have never been a superfan before. Discovering Adam and his extraordinary beauty (inner and outer) and his talent has been mind-blowing. There are people close to me who think I have lost my mind. I don’t ever let that discourage me. I just jump on twitter and talk with the many new friends I have been blessed with as a result of our common bond: the phenomena that is Adam Lambert. Long life the superfandom!

  4. Thank you for your blog on being a super fan. Before Adam, I thought people who followed any celebrity were more than a little crazy. I thought they were in serious need of mental health care and felt these people needed to find real life interests to fill their obviously empty lives. Then along came Adam Lambert and all my thoughts changed overnight. I become a cyber stalker and genuinely obsessed with this charismatic powerful performer…his voice, his ability to captivate an audience, his sex appeal, his smile…well you get the point. But as I delved into my obsession I realized that Adam is an amazing young man who values the same things I did in my twenties. He values being authentic and true to yourself, being fearless in the pursuit of his dreams and creating a more open and thereby a better world. Suddenly, I wondered where the person I had been had gone…where was the person who believed one person could change the world and had an obligation to do so, where was the person who tackled life so fearlessly, the person who chased every rainbow and danced in the rain and ranted to the moon about the injustices in our world? Adam awoken that person again and gave me the courage to examine the compromises made in the pursuit of a career, building a business and fitting in. This examination yielded real life changes for my family and we are all better for it. I believe the new me is giving my family permission to be weirdly wonderful and we are not only enjoying our lives more but we are more committed to creating the kind of world where individuality is prized above all else. So, for me and my family, Adam Lambert has not only provided hours of entertainment but he has also been the catalyst for lasting and meaningful changes to our family’s value system and in turn is helping us raise young men who can take the lessons learned from watching Adam and be whatever and whomever they want and follow their dreams with the same fearless determination shown by Adam.

  6. I LOVE your open letter to Adam! OMG, same here! Before I discovered yours & also Juneau & Xena’s blog I thought I was the only one!

I’ve actually only been a fan of Adam’s since the AMA show in Novemeber, if you can believe it. I’ve NEVER watched AI and still don’t. Really, I mean no offense to anyone at all, but the vast majority of the performers on there I just don’t find inspiring or interesting in the least. I’d certainly heard about Adam Lambert in headlines and whatnot, but I really had every intention of *completely* ignoring him. I thought he’d be just like all the rest. After the AMA’s (and the KISS that splashed across the internet the next day) I realized he was so different than I thought. I became so intrigued with him that I found myself logging onto dozens of websites and blogs to defend him all that week. I ended up getting his CD a week or two later, and that was it, I was hooked! I’m actually glad and also rather amused at myself that I’ve done such a piss-poor job ignoring him, LOL!

The closest I’ve been to this kind of near-obsession was in the mid-80’s when I was in grade school. I was a huge fan of the band Journey & belonged to their fan club for two or three years. But there was no internet then to glean every last bit of info about them from around the globe like there is now. So to some degree the internet might be helping to fuel my compulsion. But with the internet I’ve also found some really sweet people who I’d otherwise never knew existed. So like you said: it’s all good!

Also, have to ask: I read a letter similar to the one you linked at the AO website above in Juneau & Xena’s book, On the Meaning of Adam Lambert. I’m going to guess: Was that your letter there too? That was so touching, it stopped me in my tracks! I don’t think there had been a follow up (that I remember, anyway) in their book to what “happened” to you, because there were so many additional subjects covered in there. Assuming that was you, I’m glad to “find” you again!

  10. Bravo for finding that connection. There are several places later in the book when we address “Glorious Obsession” and quote a hilarious Top Ten list she put together, which let you know what became of her attempt to wean herself from Adam.

    Comment by juneauxena — April 3, 2010 @ 12:17 pm

  11. Yes, that’s right! Now I remember that Top Ten list. That was hilarious, it literally made me LOL! I think at the time I read it (I only had time to read a handful of pages a day) I wasn’t making that connection back to the same person. Ok, now it all falls into place. 🙂

  12. I want to be a superfan but my professional career is very busy. So I settle for info on the internet and twitter. Have met tons of good people I would never know otherwise. I am a registered nurse and the music uplifts me on my most depressing days. Even after loosing a patient. First hear FYE on out q sirius xm. Had to get cd. It blossomed from there. Love following his adventures via twitter and internet. This was not possible whe boy george was pop in the 80,s. If I ever meet him thanks and a hug would be so inadequate to the joy he has brought to my life but its all I have to give.

  13. I used to be a free spirit in my 20’s. When Adam Lambert walked around the corner on Idol, I stopped in my tracks. It was love at first sight.
As the weeks went by and I got to know more about Adam, I realized that he was a kindred spirit. He is living the life and believes as I did 40 years ago. I wanted to be just like him.

It had been years since I listened to music when Adam arrived in my life. Now my house is full of music, his music, Allison’s music, Kris music, all my old favorites. I feel 40 years younger thanks to Adam. I love my life more, I love my husband more, I love my children more, and I love music more than I have in years. I also love and adore Adam. I wish our generation was closer. I was born too soon, and he was born to late. However, I will go out of this life loving what he has brought to me, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

  14. Excellent observations! Really, just imagine our superfan Glambertina girlfriend giving Adam the kiss-off! Ha! I think she blinked twice and came back. Like the rest of us, resistance is futile.
    Cheers!

  17. I would love to hear more about the changes in your family as a result of Adam Lambert. I find it all so fascinating and I’ certain he will too!

  18. I think the reason we older women travel to see Adam is BECAUSE WE CAN! Most of us either work at well paying jobs or are even retired. In this day of jet travel or easy driving, it is not difficult to attend a concert.

I don’t think I’d travel to stand at an airport etc .. but to go to a concert, sure! I’ve already done it for Idol in Grand Rapids (from Vancouver). This coming week all I have to do is drive through the city for a mere half hour. Yaaayy!

  19. Yes, absolutely, that was one of the 1st things I thought of when he said that very often it seems like it’s mostly “bit older females.” They’d more likely have the money and the time or freedom to do it.

    Comment by uniquelymeLB — April 3, 2010 @ 7:18 pm

  20. Adam is in each glamberts heart not matter where they are in the world. His heart is big enough for the whole world that glamberts stick together and dont fight about who loves him most.

I made this sonnet about Adam
His eyes are prettier than the sea,
Although they are outlined by mystery.
Luscious lips so soft and smooth,
Making you wish you could share a kiss.
Dark hair soft toned but unique,
Attraction arrises from seeing his sexy but sly movements,
A voice so beautiful filled with talent,
Just takes your breath away with just one word.
Clothes that were dim and dull are no longer,
The beauty of them shines when on his skin.
Handsome no matter of his looks,
Everywhere he goes, the love will always follow.
    Although it can never be,
You can see he means the world to me.

  21. I have never been consumed by a performer , or anyone for that matter. But the reality is that Adam Lambert represents an awakening in me that is strong and happy and alive. I don’t want that to go away EVER! Non-Glambert friends mean well when they say it’s time to “get over it” and my response is “Why”? Why would I want to give up feeling more confident, feeling more joy, feeling connected to great people I would never have known!
Sorry folks, this is more of a spiritual love that gets in your soul and it is good. Thank God and the universe for this man! xo

  22. I have always been a fan of good music, great plays, and movies, good books, art. The art of all these genres has always been important in my life, but I have never loved a performer the way I love Adam. I certainly have never voted, or invested any kind of time worrying about whether or not their album’s were going to be sucessful. Adam is fun to follow. He is just so talented, honest, charismatic, and gorgeous. I loved seeing him in concert, and so did everyone else that was there. You could feel the electricity in the room when he was on stage. His performance was just outstanding.

  23. Irish1139,

I feel the same way that you do about him. My life, loves, and family of richer because of him. I had stopped listening to music-now I can’t get enough of it. THANK YOU ADAM!

  24. Lisa,
Hi girlfriend! You are right that it “is more of a spiritual love that gets in your soul and it is good”. What a beautiful way to put it.

  25. Adam may not understand the superfan thing, but then neither do I. Never in my 55 years have I been such a fan of ANYONE that I would go out of my way to see them, hear them, support them in all ways possible. But, here you have it girls and boys, Adam is Adam and because of who he is we have become superfans. Can’t explain it, don’t even try to understand it anymore, it just IS WHAT IT IS!!! For that I am so grateful to Adam. What an enormous impact this man and his talent have had on my life!!

ADAM ROCKS MY WORLD (ROCK & SEX GOD)!!!
    ADAM IS PURE PERFECTION!!!
